Hallstatt sits on the western shore of Lake Hallstatt in the Salzkammergut and has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage cultural landscape Hallstatt-Dachstein/Salzkammergut since 1997. On the programme: a stroll through the historic market square, the famous World Heritage Skywalk high above the lake, the Hallstatt salt mine with its wooden slides and the underground salt-lake boat ride and - if time and interest allow - a visit to the bone house in St. Michael's Chapel. In summer, boat tours on the lake offer a relaxing round trip; in winter, snow-covered roofs and the silent mountain backdrop turn the village into a fairytale.
